Cioch Mountaineering Club, Dunfermline

The Cioch Mountaineering Club which was formed in 1988, is based in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland and is affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS).  Through the MCofS our members receive the benefit of 3rd Party Insurance.  We are a small friendly club with around 50 members who have a common interest in hillwalking, rock and ice climbing, ski-ing and other outdoor activities.  We arrange regular weekend meets in some of Scotland’s most beautiful locations where we stay in independent or private bunkhouses and where the cost normally ranges between £8 - £17 per night.  We’ve now included links to the websites for the bunkhouses that we use.  Click here to see.

All experience levels are catered for - we have a number of members who have climbed all of Scotland’s Munro’s (separate mountains over 3000 feet), some more than once, as well as members who are just starting their hillwalking experience and have climbed only a handful.

The Club is also affiliated to the Friends of the Ochils, and has donated several thousand pounds to charities such as mountain rescue organisations, the Search and Rescue Dog Association, the National Trust for Scotland and the John Muir Trust.

We meet every Thursday at 8.45pm in the lounge at the Lyne Tavern (sometimes known as Jinty’s Lounge), where we have exclusive use, at the traffic lights on the corner of Moodie Street and Nethertown Broad Street, DunfermlineHere members, friends and visitors plan their own trips, book places on weekend meets and have a drink and chat. New or prospective members are always very welcome, so just come along, or contact one of the members identified at the bottom of this page.

During the winter months, our members hold regular free slide shows and also public lectures.  See the Club News for details.

If you are interested in rock climbing, members sometimes meet at Alien Rock in Edinburgh on Tuesday evenings for a bit of indoor climbing.

THE SCOTTISH “BIG” HILLS
Did you know that of the 80 Scottish mountains with a re-ascent of 2,000 feet or more, only 52 are Munros? You may have completed all of the Munros and maybe all of the Corbetts as well, but that doesn’t mean that you will necessarily have completed all of the BIG hills. Follow this link to see how many you have completed.
